Without the individuals who have chosen SANCCOB as a beneficiary in their wills over the years, SANCCOB might have closed our doors many times during our 44 years of service to seabirds and especially to our beloved African penguins.
When our founder, Ms. Althea Westphal, began SANCCOB out of a garage she could never have imagined that her legacy would live on to become the multi-dimensional organization that SANCCOB is today
Since 1968 we have cared for close to 90 000 seabirds and in any one year we admit more than 2 000 seabirds; we have trained hundreds of people to take care of injured, ill, oiled and abandoned penguins and other seabirds; we initiate, and participate in, research that benefits the birds and the environment they depend on; and educate future generations of leaders to care about African penguins and other vulnerable seabirds that occur in our region survive.
